We work diligently to feed the hungry by distributing nutritious food to non-profit agencies and at-risk elderly and youth. Our programs include Brown Bag for the Elderly, Grace’s Kitchen, Kids Cafe, and Mobile Food Pantry. These programs are designed to provide hunger relief to those most vulnerable. We partner with 300 churches and non-profit agencies to provide emergency food assistance across Coastal Georgia. Last year, Second Harvest food bank provided more than 8.1 million meals (more than 9.6 million pounds of food) to hungry people in our area. However, since our beginning, we have served clients as far south as Hephzibah, as far north as North Augusta, South Carolina and as far west as Columbia County. From our church members and friends of Belle-Terrace Church and a few of the local stores in our community and surrounding communities, we have received donations of food, store gift certificates, clothing, appliances, toys, school supplies and furniture. We are very grateful to you for helping us to keep this project going and we pray that you will continue with your donations of clothing, food, etc. We do appreciate you and offer a very hearty thank you for your support. On a regular basis, we send clothes to Haiti, we take clothes and bread to Freeman Personal Care Home, Daisy Vincent Personal Care Home and clothes and blankets to the homeless. We have also participated in the preparation of hot meals and delivered food to the homeless. However, our primary concern is to ensure that our local clients are properly supported from our pantry with food, clothing, toys, school supplies and furniture. One of our pet projects is the giving of Thanksgiving Baskets. We have given from 30 to 52 Thanksgiving baskets every year in addition to the number of clients we serve monthly. These baskets contain enough food for a family of four or more. The baskets are stuffed with a 10+ pound turkey, several cans of vegetables and fruit, dry beans, two starches (i.e. macaroni & Cheese, instant mashed potatoes, etc.), a desert, dressing mix, gravy mix and when it is available we also give fresh produce (vegetables and fruits). Christ Episcopal Church Outreach Ministries Augusta, GA 30914 706.736.5165 |
Details: Outreach ministries have been the central focus of Christ Church’s ministry since it was established in 1882. With its location in the Harrisburg neighborhood of Augusta, Christ Church is able to provide direct, on site outreach services to the poor and hungry of Augusta. The signature ministry of Christ Church is the Soup Kitchen, which operates every Saturday. This is an important day to hold the Soup Kitchen as many other social service agencies do not offer assistance on the weekend. Volunteers from around Augusta come to Christ Church every weekend to help feed the hungry. The Soup Kitchen is one of Augusta’s busiest, and served over 10,800 meals in 2011. Many of these meals are served to children and families. The Food Pantry is operated by Christ Church on a monthly basis. We offer food to families and individuals with a valid ID on the third Thursday of every month beginning at 11:00 a.m. A similar ministry is the Clothing Ministry which provides clothing to those unable to purchase it. Clothing and other donated items are distributed at the weekly Soup Kitchen and monthly Food Pantry. Christ Church has also entered into a partnership with physician assistant students at the Georgia Health Sciences University who run a medical screening clinic one Saturday per month at the Soup Kitchen. The students gain important skills in physical examination and interviewing techniques under the supervision of a faculty member while offering screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and other diseases. |
