VFC Food Pantry
Thomasville, GA 31757

Details: The VFC Food Pantry was launched in December of 2009, and over 500 people receive food and ministry through this outreach every month. We started with only two shelves in the kitchen stocked by the contributions from church members. We now have expanded the Food Pantry into a large classroom, have obtained a freezer for meats and frozen food, and fill large shelves from top to bottom every week. We partner with Second Harvest of Thomasville in order to purchase additional food at a greatly reduced rate. Books and teaching CD’s are also given out on a regular basis to those visiting the Food Pantry. The VFC Food Pantry is open on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. We have a pastor on site to minister to those who request prayer or counseling. Volunteers serve on Thursdays and stock the pantry during the first part of the week. In addition to the weekly food pantry, we also have a Manna Drop one Saturday quarterly. A Manna Drop is when a large truck from Second Harvest comes and drops off enough food to feed approximately 600 people (200 families) at one time. Recipients drive through our line and are hand-delivered large bags of food.
Second Harvest of South Georgia - Thomasville Warehouse
Thomasville, GA 31792

Details: In 1982, a small group of volunteers representing several Valdosta churches formed the Unity Food Bank with the goal of giving community non-profits with easy, affordable access to the foods and services necessary to carry out their charitable work. The group operated in a borrowed basement, distributing loads of food donated from another community food bank. Over the last 31 years, the organization has grown and transformed – changing names and leadership, becoming independent and nationally-accredited, and expanding geographically and operationally. Today, Second Harvest of South Georgia is the leading hunger-relief organization in the region and the second largest food bank in the state. We serve a 12,675 square mile region made up of 30 counties. In addition to our Valdosta headquarters, we have branches in Albany, Douglas and Thomasville. From these four locations, we serve more than 400 partner agencies through a variety of programs including the Food Bank, Kids Cafe, Mobile Food Pantry, and Teachers’ Harvest among others.
