Details: The purpose of Central Illinois Foodbank is to collect donated food and grocery items from growers, manufacturers, processors, distributors, and retailers for distribution to charitable agencies serving people in need. Central Illinois Foodbank, established in 1982 by a coalition of churches, distributes over 9.5 million pounds of food annually to over 150 food pantries, soup kitchens, residential programs and after-school programs in a 21 county region. Central Illinois Foodbank is a member of Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization, and is a United Way certified agency. Central Illinois Foodbank currently operates a 56,000 square foot distribution facility located in Springfield, Illinois. Central Illinois Foodbank is also proud to operate the Kids Cafe program with Springfield Urban League. Kids Cafe is a nation-wide program through Feeding America that feeds children a hot, nutritious meal in a safe environment. |

America, long the land of plenty, now faces a crisis of hunger. An increasing number of people in our community are without food, some for the first time in their lives. For those of all ages who confront hunger, solutions must be found. Our food pantry staff help with immediate problems as well as search for solutions for the future. Donations of food, time, and money are necessary for this program to carry out the agency's on-going response to hunger. In 2013, our food pantries served 113,445 clients. |

Details: Grace’s Food Pantry is one of the largest in Springfield, feeding about 15, 000 - 20,000 people a year. Our mission is “to feed hungry people by soliciting and judiciously distributing food and grocery products through a nationwide network of certified affiliate food banks.†The pantry is operated by volunteers and relies on donations from our members and other area churches to continue our mission. We assist people in emergencies, and families and individuals are referred by Contact Ministry, a church, or an approved agency. Each family may receive assistance once every thirty days. Each day the shelves in the pantry are stocked full and by day’s end, the shelves are very bare. It takes a remarkable amount of time, energy and grocery products to keep the pantry full. We have more than 50 volunteers, each working 2 hours or more per week totaling more than 5,200 hours annually. Details: The Samaritan Ministries' Food Pantry provides groceries to families and individuals on as as-needed basis. The Pantry is stocked with donations of non-perishable food donations made by neighboring churches, members, and friends. Details: Hunger is an ever-growing issue in our community. We help an average of 60 people a day with assistance in accessing food. We make referrals through formal agreements with other food pantries in our community. We open our own food pantry on Friday afternoons when the other pantries are closed. |
