• Description: Helping In His Name Ministries, Inc., usually referred to as "The Food Pantry", is an ecumenical, non-profit organization that provides temporary emergency help to the unemployed, the underemployed, elderly people on fixed incomes, and single parents on a biweekly or monthly basis. No one with a legitimate need is refused help. Since its inception in 1990, "The Food Pantry" has grown significantly. We currently feed more than 3,100 people every month who are less fortunate. Although we are an emergency or crisis center, often we are able to help single parents change the course of their lives and move out of the unfortunate situations in which they find themselves. Many elderly people on fixed incomes are unable to purchase adequate food due to high medical expenses, so we are able to supplement their food supply on a monthly basis. This may include USDA food commodities. We also offer information on other agencies, both governmental and non-profit, which may be of assistance. Feeding more than 3,100 people every month requires not only the dedication of loyal volunteers and financial input from many sources, but also a facility in which to store the food and serve the people whom we help. We depend completely on donations of food and money for our operation. There are five salaried positions and operation costs are kept to a minimum. The Food Pantry is open five days a week. The Pantry is staffed by more than a 150 volunteers weekly with a 14 member Board of Directors in place. Volunteers come from all walks of life to follow the teaching of Jesus to minister to the needs of others.
