- Description: DeKalb Salvation Army Food Pantry serves over 2,000 individuals a month. The daily operations of our food pantry is primarily done by volunteers. The DeKalb Area Food Pantry was founded in 1983 by a steering committee established by the Lutheran Campus Ministry, First United Methodist Church of DeKalb and St. Mary’s Catholic Church of DeKalb. The Pantry traveled from church to church until February 1992, when The Salvation Army agreed to permanently host it at 830 Grove Street, DeKalb. Since then, many area churches, businesses, individuals and community organizations continue to support the operation of The Salvation Army DeKalb County Food Pantry. The Salvation Army DeKalb County Food Pantry is the largest in DeKalb County, and available to serve those in need more hours than any other food pantry in the county. We have received generous donations from the community to purchase energy efficient refrigeration systems and new lighting to brighten up the atmosphere in our basement. We also get regular donations from Target Stores, Jewel, Wal-Mart, Schnucks, and Panera. Food Pantry Hours: Monday through Wednesday : 9:00 a.m. to 12:00p.m., Thursday : 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. If you are in need of assistance from our food pantry please be ready to show: Proof of residence in DeKalb; A photo State ID.
