Assumption's Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen Syracuse, NY 13208 315.473.9101 |
Details: Located on the ground floor of the Parish Center, Assumption's Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen is sustained by a group of 90 volunteers, as well as contributions from the Syracuse University Alibrandi Catholic Center and local parishes including Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Agnes, St. Ann’s and Sacred heart. The scope of the Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen is not the only thing that sets it apart from many other comparable services; volunteers add an element of spirituality to their charitable work each day through quiet, spiritual reflection. Though the food pantry and soup kitchen is supported in part by federal grants, the majority of funding comes from private donations including Nichol’s, Tops and Wegmans groceries. Food stock comes primarily from the Food Bank of Central New York. The Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen’s Daily Sandwich Program is unique. It offers a free bag lunch to anyone who comes to the door; no questions asked. Clients do not have to register, and do not have to reside in a specific geographic area. The goal of the program is to quell hunger in the most immediate and effective way possible. As a result of its accessibility, the Daily Sandwich Program hands out an epic number of sandwiches -- between 7,500 and 12,000 per month. Hours of Operation: Sandwich Program Mon - Fri 11AM - 1PM and 4PM - 5PM, Sat - Sun 11AM - 1PM; Food Pantry Mon - Fri 9:30AM - 12:30 PM. Assumption Food Pantry - This more traditional program provides families with food each month to prevent hunger, and serves many additional families who may be in crisis. The Food Pantry accommodates a prescribed geographic area as designated by the Inter-Religious Food Consortium. Parcels are distributed in quantities based on number of dependents. Clients must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for the program, and register in advance. |

Saint Lucy's Food Pantry Syracuse , NY 13204 315.424.0023 |
Details: Saint Lucy's is home to several ministries devoted to helping our community by providing nutritional support, low-cost clothing from the Agape Shop, and much more. Our mission at the pantry is to respond to God's call to share bread with brothers and sisters from St. Lucy's neighborhood with kindness and respect. Because of the negative stereotypes and judgments associated with asking for help, it is much easier to give away food than it is to receive food. Therefore we seek to welcome all who come through our doors and to offer them hospitality. We want them to be able to make choices much as they do at a grocery store. Bread of Life offers a nutritious, homemade lunch to anyone hungry for food and/or friendship. Our goal is to develop deeper ties of trust and communication in the simple acts of preparing and sharing a meal together. Through this commitment to relationships we seek to help people find power and hope within themselves and within their community. Wednesdays: 11:00 am - 12:30 pmThe Agape Shop is located in the basement of the former St. Lucy's school. Through donations and contributed off-season merchandise of local stores, we are able to offer clothing, shoes, household items, and toys at minimal cost to those who shop at the store. Our volunteers help sort and display donations, as well as assist our customers. |
