Details: Horizons Social Services of Adams County, Inc. seeks to meet the personal and community needs of the disadvantaged and destitute in the city of Quincy. We also attempt to serve as a communication facilitator between area churches and social service providers. Horizons meet its objectives, primarily, through the Quincy Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. The Quincy Soup Kitchen serves approximately 70 meals per day, 5 days per week.

Details: Madonna House provides a food pantry. Any Adams County family in need can come to Madonna House for a food basket. Requirements are to sign their name on an income guideline form, and to show proof of current address. Current Drivers License, State ID, piece of postal service mail or utility bills are acceptable forms of proof. The food pantry is supplied with food from donations, purchases, grants and Central IL Food Bank. Madonna House on average served 600 individuals monthly. The Diaper Pantry is open Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. This is a monthly service where individuals/families are allowed an emergency supply of diapers. When making a diaper donation, size 4 and 5 are always needed.

Details: QUANADA maintains a community food pantry at 27th and Maine in Quincy, Illinois that is open every Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am. (Call for availability when this day falls on a holiday.) Eligibility for the food pantry is based upon Illinois Department of Human Services income guidelines. An individual or family can only access the QUANADA food pantry once every month. A brief registration procedure is required when you arrive each time to pick up food.

For those of all ages who confront hunger, solutions must be found. Our food pantry staff help with immediate problems as well as search for solutions for the future. Donations of food, time, and money are necessary for this program to carry out the agency's on-going response to hunger. In 2013, our food pantries served 113,445 clients.

In working with individuals on a case by case basis, needs are assessed and the best service possible is provided with available resources. Clients are given the opportunity to participate in church services as well as other Salvation Army programs. Other agencies are involved, through referrals, to assist in meeting the overall needs of the client. Everyone is treated with dignity and without discrimination. They are given guidance and support to assist them in leading a self-sufficient life to the betterment of their families and our community. Any individual or family in need of basic necessities may apply for assistance. Residents of Adams County and the surrounding area and transient persons are eligible for services.
