We are here to help by offering a place to find items of food, clothing and miscellaneous items. Our mission is to be a church and people supported ministry, striving to provide a supply of provisions for those associated with our church and the surrounding community in times of need and/or crisis. We desire to be available to help anyone having a temporary need or crisis, by providing a supply of food, thus allowing the use of resources in other areas. When you arrive each week, you will need to take a number and fill out an application form. When your number is called, you will be free to choose from the food items available that evening. Donations of food items are appreciated, but it is most efficient to give monetary donations as we are able to purchase food from Community Harvest at a much lower cost and in larger quantities. It is not uncommon for us to provide food for 1,000 people per month. In addition to food items we provide coats, hats, gloves, scarves in winter and other clothing and household items are available to provide for those in need.
Huntertown United Methodist Church - Food Bank
Fort Wayne, IN 46845
Details: We have a very active food bank that continues to meet the needs of the community. We receive donations from individuals in our church and community and we are affiliated with the Associated Churches food bank. We also receive items from the Community Harvest Food Bank. We serve two times a month - the second Tuesday and the last Saturday of the month (there are occasional changes to work around holidays). On our Saturday food bank days we have volunteers come in and serve a sit down hot breakfast to our guests! This has been a great opportunity to sit down together over a meal and share life together. Although we won't turn anyone away on their first visit to us, we use the guidelines given to us by the Associated Churches and will help people connect to the food bank closest to their residence.
