Description:
The EPH Food Pantry provides emergency food services on a weekly basis to individuals who reside in the City of Somerville, MA. Utilizing a volunteer-to-client "shopping" system, our pantry allows clients to choose their own items from our available selection of fresh and shelf-stable foods. We receive the bulk of our food from local food access organizations including the Greater Boston Food Bank, Food for Free, and Lovin Spoonfuls, but also receive generous donations from local grocery stores, short-term food drives, and individuals within the community. When available, we also receive locally-grown fruits and vegetables from Farmer Dave's CSA of Dracut, MA. In January 2013, we served over 300 Somerville families, totaling over 1,200 people and over 2,400 bags of groceries! The EPH Emergency Food Pantry is currently open every Wednesday evening from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Only Somerville residents with proof of a Somerville address (i.e. license, utility bill, pay stub) are eligible to shop at the pantry. New clients must register on-site with the food pantry coordinator to shop in the pantry and should present their EPH Food Pantry Membership Card at each distribution they attend. All clients are allowed to shop at the food pantry once per month. Clients are served on a first come, first serve basis, and are not allowed to assemble on EPH property before 4:30pm on distribution days. Clients are expected to be respectful of other clients, volunteers, and Elizabeth Peabody House staff and program participants.
