Description:
With a vision of the heart, (put there by God,) Dr. Bob Long and Abe Schneider began the process of establishing God’s Pantry. In November of 1985, Trinity Episcopal Church organized a program for food distribution to be christened “God’s Pantry.†The goal was food distribution on an emergency basis for anyone in Norton Country. The year-round program was not intended to take the p lace of any of the many other programs already well supported in Norton. We furnish a variety of food items-- canned goods, pastas, cereals, and also fresh eggs, bread, butter, cheese and frozen ground beef. We try to furnish each family in need with enough food for several weeks. Today, God’s Pantry is still going strong, not only with the church volunteers, but also with the support of the community. We receive monetary funds from memorials and individuals. Local scout troops have yearly food drives specifically for God’s Pantry. We also receive donations from other local clubs and merchants, plus the generosity of many individuals in the community. Many of the donations are from individuals helped by God’s Pantry in the past. They now want to help others. In the beginning, the committee was concerned about abuse of this service, but that has proven to be very rare. As anyone who works for that hour on Sunday afternoon will tell you, people are truly thankful.
