Description:
The Lombard-Villa Park Food Pantry has been serving the communities of Lombard, Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace since its founding by local churches in 1981. The First United Methodist Church of Lombard serves as the host of the Food Pantry located in the lower level of the church. The Lombard-Villa Park Food Pantry is a non-profit agency partner of the Northern Illinois Food Bank and is designated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an Emergency Food Program. Area residents, local grocery stores and businesses, churches, schools, service organizations and government agencies in Lombard, Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace support the Food Pantry. Needy residents living in these communities are eligible to obtain emergency food twice per month. Clients must provide proof of residence with a driver’s license, I.D. card or utility bill showing their name and current address. Clients sign that they meet the U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for emergency food distribution. In 2013 the Lombard-Villa Park Food Pantry provided 131.5 tons of food to 21,861 individuals from 5,949 households over the 12-month period. The Food Pantry spent 33,514 dollars donated from the communities we serve to purchase food for our clients along with 140,000 pounds of donated food items and 41,000 pounds of free foods from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Our clients shop grocery store style choosing those foods that they typically use in preparing meals for their families. We provide frozen meat, canned foods, fresh produce, bread and sweet rolls, frozen fruit and juices as well as other non-perishable foods as available. The Lombard-Villa Park Food Pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week from 9 a.m. to Noon.
