Description:
We are The SHOP, a student-run, on-campus food pantry at Iowa State University. We were created in January 2011 when a group of students in the Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) transfer learning community were approached by ISU Dining about the possibility of opening a campus food pantry. After talking with other university food pantries, searching for a location, and receiving approval from Government of the Student Body (GSB), The SHOP was created. These generous students wanted to give back to the ISU campus and help other students in need of food assistance. Our organization is made possible by donations from individuals, campus organizations, local churches, and more. With their help, we are able to provide a wide variety of free, non-perishable food and personal care items for all ISU students. Additionally, our wonderful student volunteers and staff make it possible to keep the food pantry open during the week. Because of their outstanding volunteer efforts, we were awarded the Story County Youth Volunteer Award in 2011. Our mission is to increase food security on campus and offer non-perishable food and other personal hygiene items to all ISU students and faculty/staff in need. We currently serve 30-40 students each month. We understand that students value their privacy and rest assured, we operate in an anonymous fashion. You can stop by, show us your student ID card (we simply want to know that you are an ISU student), and grab the items that you need. We don’t ask questions or judge in any way. If you happen to have a question or need help, don’t hesitate to ask one of our volunteers. They will gladly assist you! Just remember, students like YOU make our experience enjoyable and our ultimate hope is that we can reach out and help you in any way possible.
