Ritter Center - Food Pantry
San Rafael, CA 94912
Details: Ritter Center maintains the largest food pantry in Marin County. Each year, the agency distributes more than 7,500 bags of groceries to over 1,400 households. The vast majority of food comes via the San Francisco Food Bank. The pantry packs special bags for the homeless consisting of foods that do not need to be cooked and provides homeless clients with military surplus can openers. Due to the weak economy, Ritter Center has experienced a 37% increase in the number of households seeking food assistance from our pantry from just two years ago.
St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin County - Dining Room
San Rafael, CA 94901
Details: Each day, we serve our homeless neighbors and other struggling citizens with our soup kitchen, housing assistance, open pantry and much more. The Free Dining Room was created in 1981 as a free kitchen to serve Marin County’s hungry citizens with dignity and a welcoming demeanor. The Free Dining Room has been open every single day since then, and has served more than two million meals to our hungry neighbors. Each year our kitchen serves more than 250,000 meals, providing the only sustenance of the day for many of our diners. Many of our diners are Marin’s “working poor,” living below the poverty line and trying to make ends meets. We also serve senior citizens and people with disabilities, who often appreciate a hot meal and some warm conversation. Finally, the Dining Room offers a welcome respite to those who do not have housing, and must sleep in their cars or in the hills of Marin County.
