Details: C.R.O.S. Ministries Community Food Pantries: Non-perishable food items are collected by congregations, groups, and individuals throughout Palm Beach County and taken to the closest pantry. In 2012, 46,770 people received emergency food, nearly half of them children. Volunteers are needed at the pantries Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to sort and shelve food, to pack and distribute food bags, to pick-up food. Congregations and community groups are needed to collect food. Each bag of food distributed from the pantries contains a slip of paper which reads: "This is a gift of God's love from local churches and synagogues. The food pantry is a ministry of C.R.O.S. Ministries." Clients may go directly to the nearest food pantry to receive emergency food assistance if they have not visited the pantry in the past two months. For persons visiting the food pantries from families of four or less, bring photo identification for the person vising the pantry. For persons of families of five or more, bring photo identification for the person visiting the food pantry and some form of identification for all other family members. Details: The Caring Kitchen is our hot meal program is located at 196 NW 8th Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33444, two blocks north of Atlantic Ave. In 2012, The Caring Kitchen served 105,351 combined breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. The program includes numerous services such as job search assistance and referrals to human service and social service agencies in an effort to move people to self-sufficiency. All of The Caring Kitchen programs are carried out primarily with donated food and volunteers. Lunch Program: Each weekday 180-250 meals are served to homeless and near homeless individuals and families, people with low incomes, senior citizens, and children. Lunch time is 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Volunteers are needed at the Kitchen to assist from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with preparing and serving meals, cleaning up, food pick ups, and visiting with the program participants. Other volunteer opportunities are yard work, painting, sorting clothing, and off-site meal preparation for 50 to 200 people. Evening Meal Program: Three evenings a week volunteers serve an evening meal at The Caring Kitchen. Over 50 people are served each Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to serve food and clean up. Breakfast Program: Each weekday over 60 breakfast meals are served to homeless and near homeless individuals and families, people with low incomes, senior citizens, and children. Breakfast time is 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Volunteers are needed at the Kitchen to assist from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with preparing and serving meals, cleaning up, food pick ups, and visiting with the program participants. Other volunteer opportunities are yard work, painting, sorting clothing, and off-site meal preparation for 50 to 200 people. Shut-ins: Three days a week hot meals are delivered to shut-ins. Volunteers delivering the meals visit with the shut-ins to see if they have other needs, such as medical concerns, transportation or household needs. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals and visit with shut-ins. Weekend Meal/Brown Bag Lunch Program at Cason UMC: Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. two bag lunches (one for Saturday and one for Sunday) are given to homeless and near homeless individuals and families, people with low incomes, senior citizens, and children in our community. This program is run in conjunction with Cason United Methodist Church located at 342 N. Swinton Ave. in Delray Beach. Volunteers are needed to help pack and distribute bag lunches.
