Details: The Huntington Area Food Bank is a 501 (c)3 Non-Profit organization affiliated with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief agency in the United States. We distribute USDA commodities through the TEFAP program which is managed by the USDA. The emergency food assistance program is designed to alleviate hunger amongst low income individuals and to service areas damaged by natural disasters. We have partnerships with retail grocers, restaurants, farmers, civic organizations, private donors, food manufacturers and processors. We serve a client base of 96,000 food insecure individuals through our 200 member agencies in 12 counties of southern West Virginia, 4 counties of northeastern Kentucky and Lawrence County, Ohio.

In 1981, Mountaineer Food Bank was created through the efforts of an anti-hunger coalition looking for ways to feed more people. They began creating relationships throughout the state, and started the rural food delivery system in the Feeding America network. Today, Mountaineer Food Bank is the state's largest supplier of food and personal products for people in need of emergency assistance. Through a sophisticated network of feeding programs and donors. Mountaineer Food Bank now serves over 500 programs in 48 counties in West Virginia. Our state of the art facility and ordering system allow us to deliver to each county every month. As a food bank, we provide food to soup kitchens, food pantries, day care centers, shelters, after school programs, Back Pack programs, and senior programs when they need it. We are charter members of Feeding America, a national organization dedicated to hunger relief. Our central location in Gassaway, WV allows us to deliver, receive and collect food from all over the state in a efficient, timely manner.
