Details: The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger for more than 30 years. The Food Bank started as a one-day demonstration project on World Food Day in 1981, and to address the needs of hungry families, began permanent operation on October 16, 1982. Originally, the Food Bank was located in a converted movie theater in Steelton. The Food Bank initiated a capital campaign, raising 1.5 million dollars directed to the construction of a brand new warehouse. Then, in 1994, the Food Bank relocated to its current facility in Harrisburg. In 2002 a second warehouse was added in Williamsport, to better serve the northern tier of our territory. The Food Bank’s Harrisburg warehouse has just undergone a second expansion, adding 28,000 square feet onto the existing warehouse. Serving 27 counties, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is the largest non-profit food distribution organization in central PA. The Food Bank solicits, inventories and distributes food and other donated products to more than 800 partner agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, etc.) that directly serve people struggling with hunger. During the past year, the Food Bank distributed more than 22 million pounds of food. That is the equivalent of 2.5 tractor-trailer loads of food distributed every day of the year!

Details: Channels is a charitable non-profit organization which collects excess perishable and shelf-stable food from hospitals, hotels, corporate kitchens, food contractors and retail stores and distributes to our member agencies such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens, crisis centers, homeless shelters, and other agencies in our area who serve people in need. We have a three pronged approach which involves gathering the necessary resources, food preparation and delivery, and educational programs - all aimed at alleviating hunger in Central Pennsylvania. Channels is currently delivering over one million lbs. of nourishing food annually to over 60 agencies, serving 100,000 persons annually. In addition, Channels’ Kitchen School supplies meals to 600 children daily in 15 sites of our Kids Cafes. Incorporated in June of 1989, Channels is a member of Feeding America, the Nation’s Food Bank Network.
Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County

Details: The mission of the Community Food Warehouse is to provide low cost and nutritional food products in continuing and sufficient volume to its member agencies who are addressing food insecurity issues that affect the unemployed, underemployed, and needy throughout Mercer County. The Warehouse does not supply food directly to clients, but solicits local grocers, retailers, and food manufacturers for affordable/low cost food products and warehouses them for its member agencies. With the Warehouse being the conduit, these agencies can receive some foods at no cost, some at from $.10 - $.17/lb, and some at 30% off wholesale cost. For every dollar donated the CFWMC can distribute 9 lbs. of food, 7 meals or $15 worth of grocery items.

Details: For over 20 years the society of St. Vincent de Paul has operated food for families in the Altoona-Johnstown diocese. Following the call to feed the hungry the society operates two food banks and two family kitchens, one in altoona and one in johnstown as well as five food pantries serving Altoona, Carrolltown, Ebensburg, Johnstown and Patton. Through the work of our dedicated members and volunteers nearly 100,000 meals were served last year at our kitchens and some 1500 families per month receive much needed groceries from our SVDP pantries each month. In addition our parish conferences assisted many families with food and household supplies.

Details: The Greater Berks Food Bank (GBFB) was founded in 1983 by a group of local clergy concerned about the community's hunger problem. In our first year, the GBFB had 12 member agencies and distributed 500,000 pounds of food. The GBFB collects, stores, and distributes food to more than 280 charitable agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after school programs, and senior housing facilities) in Berks, Schuylkill and western Montgomery Counties. The GBFB distributes 6 million pounds of food annually from its warehouse to these agencies which in turn distribute the food to local residents in need. The participating charities can save as much as 75% of their food costs by receiving their food from the GBFB. For every $1 donated, the GBFB can acquire $20 of food through its supply network.

Details: The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Food Bank is a Regional Food Bank servicing charitable organizations by providing food to alleviate hunger and promote proper nutrition, particularly among children and the elderly. The Regional Food Bank provides food assistance to Faith-based and 501(c)3 non-profit community organizations to distribute to needy families. Details: Philabundance was created in 1984 with the simple belief that no man, woman or child should go hungry. Our growth and eventual integration with the Philadelphia Food Bank in 2005 has made us the region’s largest hunger relief organization. We are now able to address hunger through direct service programs and a network of 500 member agencies, as well as contribute to a broad spectrum of social services through food cupboards, emergency kitchens, shelters, daycare and senior centers and beyond. Philabundance has taken a stronghold of the hunger issue in the Delaware Valley, implementing both emergency relief and also long-term strategies to strengthen the hunger safety net. There is no quick fix, but with a unified dedication from our partners, donors and the public at large, we are creating innovative programs and support to our agencies that make nutritious food accessible to all.

Details: The FCCAA Food Bank is Fayette County's designated warehouse for collection and storage of food for the needy. Last year, more than 1.8 million pounds of food were collected and distributed to approximately 9,000 persons Distribution takes place through a network of 49 volunteer food pantries and congregate feeding sites. Maintaining an adequate level of nutrition within the County is extremely important to the FCCAA Food Bank. Details: Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that collects and distributes food through a 380+ member network in 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. Through food solicitation, fund raising, special events, and community partnerships, the Food Bank gathers food at our 94,000 square foot warehouse in Duquesne, PA. Through outlets such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, after school programs, senior high rises, MH-MR drop-in centers, neighborhood food assistance agencies, emergency or disaster-related feeding sites, regional food banks, Meals on Wheels, community centers, and special programs, the Food Bank currently distributes around 27 million pounds of food per year. Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. Details: ICCAP has an ongoing food distribution program in convenient locations throughout the county, operated entirely by volunteers. A box of food is provided regularly to families to help stretch food dollars and provide good nutrition.
