Description:
Most of the food comes from donations: St Mary's parishioners, other churches, individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations like the Scouts, the Elk's , Rotary, the Postal Workers, etc. About one quarter of our food comes form the Community Food Bank of N.J. - some at no cost to us (Federal & State supplied) and some bought with grant money from ShopRite of Oakland and from the Emergency Food Coalition of Passaic. Currently we have approximately 175 families enrolled in our Food Pantry. This comes to about 480 people (adults & children). They live mainly in Pompton Lakes, Wanaque, Haskell, Bloomingdale, and Butler. Included in the 480 people are about 185 children under the age of 18, about 38 seniors, 65 & older, and over 50 singles of all ages. Just about all races and religions are represented. Being that we are a legal, IRS recognized non-profit, all people are eligible as long as they live within our service area and meet the income guidelines supplied by TEFAP (The Emergency Food Program of NJ).
