Description:
The Food Pantry of the Ministerial Alliance, originally called the Hardy Food Room, has been in business for over 25 years. The Alliance is an organization of churches in North Sharp County. The lady responsible for organizing this service was Betty Rogers with the help of friends from the community. It began with the government commodities (cheese, etc.) and has expanded to a food pantry distributing meat, canned goods, bread, pastries, produce and paper products (when we have them). We ask our clients to come once a month but we will provide extra food if there is a need in the household. We are open for business every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. We ask our clients to fill out a basic information form when they first come in and these are updated by the client on a regular basis. The information is kept in our files and not shared with any other agency. The clients receive water and/or soda, produce, baked goods, government commodities and a variety of canned and non-perishable food. Our food comes from government commodities, purchased food from the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas, donations from the Feed America Program of Wal-Mart and donations from community members and various churches. Our merchandise varies from week to week but we can offer food products every week. Our workers are from the community and the various churches who participate in the Ministerial Alliance. The volunteers usually work a 2 hour shift once or twice a month. We are proud that we can offer this service to the community.
