Description:: GVNA HealthCare operates a Food Pantry out of 92 Boulder Drive, Fitchburg. The Pantry is open every Wednesday from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, 48 weeks of the year. The Pantry is completely staffed by volunteers. At the first intake meeting, the volunteers meet with the participants and review the eligibility requirements and procedure for obtaining food stamps. They are directed to the Project Bread hotline. The volunteers review the other entitlement programs, such as WIC, to make sure that the participants are aware of all the community resources available to them. Their names are entered into the database with the dates when they can visit the Food Pantry. On their designated days, they receive a box of nutritious food and are given recipes that correlate to the contents of the box. e.g. how to prepare red cabbage. Special care is taken with culturally appropriate ingredients.
