- Description: In 1974 the Mahtomedi Area Food Shelf was formed. It was and remains an outreach ministry of St. Jude of the Lake Church. In the beginning the food was stored in the basement of the church. Volunteers packed tile bags and the food was distributed out of the Parish Office. In 1999 the garage attached to the church was turned into the new Food Shelf space, which is where it still resides. In 2006 a grant was secured and the MAFS went through a major renovation. The client area was expanded, electricity was updated, new floor, insulation and heaters were installed. This created a more pleasant and safe environment for the volunteers and the clients. Even though The Mahtomedi Area Food Shelf is housed at and assisted by St. Jude of the Lake Church, it is your community Food Shelf. The Food Shelf services the Mahtomedi School District #832. Our clients receive 5-7 days worth of food including one and a half gallons of 1% milk, one dozen eggs, 8-12 slices of American cheese and one pound of ground beef. They also receive other frozen items, such as hot dogs, pizza, bacon and fresh fruit when available. Clients are allowed to come once a month unless there is an emergency and the Coordinator will make an exception if necessary. The Food Shelf's service hours are every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm, the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
