  • Description: FOOD PANTRY: Our Food Pantry is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on an emergency basis. A food box with enough food goods for five days is made up, on request, for individuals or families. While we have several sources for provisions for the Pantry, the Care and Share food bank in Colorado Springs is a major contributor. Local faith-based organizations and businesses, including grocers, also contribute. Thanks to the Aspen Mine Center beginning life as a casino and restaurant, there is a walk-in refrigerator and walk-in freezer in the building, making it possible to keep and provide more than just canned and dried goods. COMMODITIES: The last Friday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Aspen Mine Center hosts COMMODITIES DAY, run entirely by volunteers. There are 100 families and 200 to 300 individuals, including seniors and low-income individuals, served each month through the program, with food from the federal government and Care and Share. The Care and Share food bank in Colorado Springs is sometimes used to supplement the commodities program, to provide a greater number of items. If you are a senior age 60 and older and meet certain financial criteria you may qualify for an additional box of supplies.
