Details: SHIP's Galley is a program of and service provided by the SHIP's Anti-Hunger Program. The Galley was established in the Fall of 1992 as a response to need for an on site meal program to feed the hungry in our region. It is operated by SHIP with the support of faith communities, organizations and other volunteers whose purpose it is to provide a nutritious meal to any person in need. The meals are served to anyone in need regardless of age, race, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, HIV status, residence or any other qualification. Details: The provision of immediate services needed to stabilize household and provide for clients daily nutritional needs. People in need are provided with emergency subsistence food and other available commodities. Donated food items we receive are distributed to those in need and to affiliated agencies and groups serving those in need. The food pantry is also used to provide for the needs of our other Anti-Hunger Program needs. |

Details: The MOBILE SOUP KITCHEN - Disaster Unit vehicle is part of our ongoing effort to enhance and expand the faith community and the general community’s capacity to reduce hunger and homelessness. We provide tangible emergency relief, on an ongoing basis, to this identified high-risk populations in our county. Ninety Nine percent of all the food used to feed the low income and needy among us through our Anti-Hunger Programs is donated. Volunteers from faith communities, organizations, clubs, corporations and individuals helped prepare and serve the meals. God Bless them all! SHIP receives a grant in the amount of $25,000 per year from Somerset County. These funds are used to help pay for one part time Mobile Soup Kitchen support person. This person makes sure the vehicle is supplied and ready for service when the volunteers arrive. Hours: Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. |
