Details: With the help of countless committed volunteers, our Community Soup Kitchen at 18 Neilson St. in New Brunswick serves an average of 300 free meals every day to those in need. We serve meals Monday through Friday from 11am to 7pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. Some of the guests are mothers with young children. Some are elderly. Some are unemployed, others are working and can’t make ends meet. They are male and female, young and old, White, Hispanic/Latino and African-American. Guests of the soup kitchen are served in an atmosphere of hospitality and dignity. We offer guests the opportunity to select from a varied menu featuring nutritious meals prepared from the freshest ingredients. No one leaves Elijah’s Promise hungry. |

Details: In 1882 the New Brunswick Corps was commissioned as the seventh Corps in the United States. The New Brunswick Corps service area includes: East Brunswick, Highland Park, Milltown, New Brunswick and North Brunswick. A significant increase in persons seeking assistance is noticeable and comparable to the population growth within this area. There has been a large influx of non-English speaking families to which The Salvation Army has provided a helping hand meeting basic needs such as food, rental, utility and medical assistance. As it has done for more than a century The Salvation Army has kept pace and continues to play an essential role in the lives of area residents fulfilling it’s national promise of “Doing the Most Good.†|

Details: Emanuel Lutheran Church provides a food pantry that is stocked with donations from members of the congregation. While modest in size, the food pantry provides many staples, such as pasta, sauces, canned meat and fish, cereal and soup. It serves as an emergency backstop for people in the New Brunswick community who find themselves without food and without recourse to food. |

Details: On Christmas Eve 1989, the Ebenezer Baptist Church Soup Kitchen was organized and started by the late Reverend Dr. Clarence Brown, Sr. and his wife, Deaconess Annye Brown. Under the pastorate of the late Rev. Lonnie Ford and the continued leadership of Rev. Gregory Wallace, Rev. and Mrs. Brown directed and maintained an established feeding operation that served meals to the homeless and needy. Today, the Soup Kitchen continues its outreach to the community with volunteers from the New Brunswick Fire Department, community workers from the State of New Jersey, and volunteers from Ebenezer Baptist Church. The Soup Kitchen hours of operation: Tuesdays from 11:15am through 1:15pm. |
