Details: Since 1986, the Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) has fought hunger and poverty by distributing food and other necessities to over 800 Partner Agencies in 35 of Alabama's 67 counties. We currently reach out to more than 330,000 individuals every year, providing more than 20 million pounds. Those we reach include children, seniors, the unemployed, low-pay working families, the homeless and disadvantaged, and disaster victims, among others. Through this food network, our Partner Agencies provide free food to individuals and families in need by distributing groceries, hosting on-site feeding programs or Meals on Wheels programs. Our distribution system takes food that otherwise would have gone to waste and provides it to people who struggle to make ends meet, often times choosing between food and other basic necessities such as medications and utilities.
Holy Comforter Food Pantry
Montgomery, AL 36111

Details: Holy Comforter began our ministry feeding the needy in 2004 in a small closet serving only 1 to 10 people per month. In 2005 we had outgrown the closet and moved to the old secretary's office. New shelves were installed, a grant for our refrigerator/freezer were obtained and we were in business again. The pantry grew so rapidly that we could no longer depend on donations. We had to go to the Montgomery Area Food Bank to better serve our people. The money donated goes a long way in keeping food on the shelves. We are currently serving about 75 to 100 families per week.
