Details: Nearly 14% of Midland residents officially live in poverty. A great many more teeter at the threshold, at risk of being pushed over by a high energy bill, a medical emergency, a car repair. When the teetering turns into a freefall, meals start disappearing. Midland residents can make an appointment to come to our U-Pick pantry 5 times per year, receiving a week’s worth of groceries each time. We recommend appointments be requested early in the week for our Thursday pantry; we consistently reach capacity.

Details: MPC's food pantry works with the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network (EFPN), a nonprofit organization that coordinates eight local pantries. Our pantry operates on a "you pick" basis. Clients work through the EFPN to make an appointment to come in and choose a week's worth of items based on the size of their families.

Details: Meals are provided at no cost to guests staying at our facilities and to area residents who either can't afford the food they need or cannot make it through the month on the resources available to them. There are no qualifiers or forms to fill out. We serve more than 46,500 hot, wholesome meals yearly. Soup and sandwiches are available for take-out for the evening meal. The soup kitchen is located at our Buttles Street facility, and is open to the public from 12:00pm to 1:30pm Monday through Saturday.

Details: The Share A Meal Service, better known as the SAMS Pantry, is a food assistance ministry for Midland residents. SAMS Pantry is St. John’s largest local outreach ministry, operating in the community since October 1, 1984. In fall of 2012, SAMS moved its operations off the main church grounds and into leased space about a half mile away at 503 S. Saginaw Rd. Our food pantry operates six days a week and regularly serves about 100 families a month. Clients are assigned an appointment time and allowed to make their own selections based on their household needs for a week. SAMS is one of eight member food pantries in the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network. The Network, or EFPN, is responsible for setting appointment times and determining best pantry location for those seeking assistance. While SAMS Pantry has regular hours, we can only serve by appointments scheduled through the EFPN. If you live in the Midland area and need assistance, contact St. John's with your your name and the best telephone number at which to reach you and we'll pass it along to the EFPN. Their turn-around time for scheduling appointments is typically 1-2 business days.
