GBC Food Pantry Manhattan, KS 66502 785.776.0424 |
Details: GBC Food Pantry is a ministry that provides essential food items to families in need as determined by the Flint Hills Breadbasket. The Breadbasket supports the Food Pantry by providing basic food items on a weekly basis, to be issued to needy families. Private donations of food items are also accepted by the Food Pantry, and are used as needed. Occasionally, health and comfort items are donated by various sources. These items are in tremendous need and are greatly appreciated by recipients. In addition, the GBC Food Pantry Fund administered by the Deacon/Deaconess Committee is used to supplement the Breadbasket when shortages exist. These funds are used to purchase basic staple items that are not part of the weekly food allotment. The Food Pantry is open for issue each Tuesday from 1 to 4 pm. The Food Pantry operates with 3 to 4 volunteers at a time. At present there are a total of 12 volunteers who serve the Food Pantry on a regular basis. The Food Pantry serves up to 18 families per week. The Food Pantry not only ministers to the physical needs of individuals and families by providing food, but pantry personnel also discuss problems and issues with clients and try to provide solutions or ideas to help them. We encourage them to consider taking and reading handouts that are available in the waiting area, as well as leaving a prayer request for the Grace fellowship to address. |
