Details: In 1979, several families who were members of "Bread for the World" met to determine the need for a food bank in Idaho Falls. By the middle of 1980, the food bank they started came under the sponsorship of the RCCM. The Idaho Falls Community Food Bank then began in May 1980 as a community effort to meet short-term and emergency food needs. It was initially located in the basement of St. Luke's Episcopal Church until November 2004. It then was moved to the First Presbyterian Church's Pullen Building, at 245 N Placer. The Food Bank operates as a Committee of the RCCM, Inc. Since we were designed to meet emergency needs only, recipients must obtain a voucher from the social agency or church and are eligible to receive six food boxes in a period of six months. The Food Bank is located at 245 N Placer. Space is provided free by First Presbyterian Church. Food distribution hours are Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. A food referral slip/voucher is needed. The food bank is closed on all state and federal holidays. |
Idaho Falls Community Outreach Center Idaho Falls, ID 83401 208.557.5750 |
Details: The Idaho Falls Community Outreach Center provides a centralized location for a variety of community services, rent-free, so they can focus on their own missions, making our community more hospitable. Started in 1985, the Soup Kitchen was a vision of two members of the Episcopal Church that provided a noon time meal to the needy on weekends. The mission of the Soup Kitchen has grown to where it now open seven days a week and serves over 55,000 meals a year. Dedicated teams of volunteers from most of the area’s churches and several organizations prepare, serve, and cleanup the meal using donations of food and money donated from the community. Those served by the Soup Kitchen include the homeless, transients, low income, elderly, children, unemployed, and handicapped. No qualifications are required, no questions are asked, and no religious views are fostered. It is the mission of the Soup Kitchen to provide a sanctuary where fellowship is nurtured, and a hot nourishing meal is served in an environment of respect and dignity. To make this possible Individual, one-time donations as well as regular monthly donations make up a large portion of our total income. Other sources include fund raisers from church groups, civic organizations, and the Combined Federal Campaign sponsored by federal workers in the area. The major source of food donations comes from the annual Interfaith Community 4th of July, Boy Scout, and Mail Handlers Food Drives, individual food donations and food drives sponsored by various groups, churches, and organizations in the community. Hours of operation: Noon to 1:00 pm daily |
