- Description: Bread & Roses's primary purpose is to ease the hunger of those in need in the greater Lawrence area. We serve a full-course, nutritious dinner five nights per week. Anyone who is hungry or in need is welcome. There are no questions asked, no forms to fill out and no charge for the meal. An average of 200 meals are served to homeless or needy families and individuals each evening. Bread and Roses is primarily a soup kitchen but we do provide emergency food on a case-by-case basis from our Emergency Food Pantry. If a guest requests emergency services, a referral is required from a local social services organization. As with the food pantry items, Bread and Roses distributes protective clothing and other basic needs. If available, infant formula and diapers are also supplied to people who are referred by outside human service organizations. Dinner is served from 5pm to 7pm: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday. We are closed on Fridays and Sundays.
