  • Description: The Algonquin Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry officially opened its doors at 600 East Oak Street, Lake in the Hills, in January of 2000. We operate as a not-for-profit corporation under IRS code, section 501 c(3). In June 2000, Lake in the Hills won statewide recognition for its local food pantry. The village earned first place in the Governor's Home Town Awards, which recognize community volunteerism. The organization was founded and is operated by representatives from several local churches: St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Light of Christ Lutheran Church, Joy Community Presbyterian Church, Algonquin Congregational Church and Christ United Methodist Church. The pantry is actively supported by the villages of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills as well as many area residents. Many wonderful volunteers from these villages and churches comprise the staff that oversees the operation of the pantry; which is open from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. Clients may make selections from a “supermarket” style set-up which includes the use of shopping carts. A variety of packaged, canned, refrigerated and frozen foods are available. At this time approximately 300 families make use of the facility which was established to supplement short term emergency needs for food. Beyond the services provided, the Algonquin Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry serves as a symbol of the communities’ concern and compassion for families and individuals who are less fortunate or who are presently experiencing difficult times in their lives. It is both our obligation and our privilege to serve our neighbors in need. The pantry strives to make the Algonquin and Lake in the Hills communities better places to live.
