Details: Established in 1992, the Bourne Friends Food Pantry is a non-profit organization, under the auspices of the Friends of Bourne Council on Aging, Inc. The mission of the Food Pantry is to assist individuals and families in the town of Bourne that do not have the resources to provide themselves or their families with adequate nutrition. The Council on Aging, as the Human Services Agency for the town, oversees the Bourne Friends Food Pantry. The Pantry’s dedicated staff of 30+ volunteers, supervised by the Program Coordinator, is responsible for The Food Pantry’s weekly operation. Today, the Bourne Friends Food Pantry serves more than 400 families, an average of 650+ individuals receive food each month. Twenty-three percent (23%) of the individuals served are senior citizens. At Thanksgiving, special holiday baskets are prepared and distributed. At Christmas, holiday foods are also available. Food is purchased primarily through the Greater Boston Food Bank or locally, at discounted costs. The Pantry is also a recipient of an annual $1500 grant from Project Bread, the Walk for Hunger. The Pantry provides referrals and resource information for the many services available to clients: Council on Aging Outreach, WIC, fuel assistance, Food Stamps, etc. Bourne Friends Food Pantry Hours: Thursdays 9:00AM – noon, Third Saturdays 9:00AM to 11:00 by appointment, Fourth Thursday evening 5:00PM to 7:00PM.
