Details: Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that collects and distributes food through a 380+ member network in 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. Through food solicitation, fund raising, special events, and community partnerships, the Food Bank gathers food at our 94,000 square foot warehouse in Duquesne, PA. Through outlets such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, after school programs, senior high rises, MH-MR drop-in centers, neighborhood food assistance agencies, emergency or disaster-related feeding sites, regional food banks, Meals on Wheels, community centers, and special programs, the Food Bank currently distributes around 27 million pounds of food per year. Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. Daily operations at our award-winning LEED certified "Green" warehouse include inspecting and re-packaging food, preparing orders for agencies, receiving, deliveries, pick-ups, maintaining a fleet of trucks and other vehicles, accounting and tracking, Food Stamp outreach, visiting and monitoring agencies, special events planning, development activities, nutrition education, a test kitchen, volunteer projects, publications, and tours. The Food Bank enjoys rich collaborative relationships with corporations and foundations, government, donors, volunteers, agencies and people we serve. Because of this strong community support, the Food Bank is there to help when we're needed. Even after two decades, we still strive to respond to our community's needs by improving and expanding services, developing new programs, advocating for changes in public policy, maintaining best practices, and alleviating hunger wherever and however we can.
